To prospective Aoyama Business School students

Dean, Graduate School of International Management Fumio TakahashiThe genesis of the Aoyama Business School (Graduate School of International Management) was the “Master's Course in International Business,” the first night graduate school in the history of Japanese private universities, established in April 1990. Currently, the Graduate School of International Management offers graduate courses in an MBA program (fulltime and flextime) format, and doctorate courses in a five year Ph.D. program and three year DBA program format.

In an era of turbulent changes in the business environment, such as the globalization of economics and the IT revolution, our MBA course strives to cultivate management professionals with an entrepreneurial spirit and the skills to initiate enterprises and transform organizations, while our doctorate course strives to cultivate practical researchers who can provide solutions to the management issues that arise from those changes.

Being successful in business requires conceptualizing and taking action, a process composed of analyzing situations, building appropriate action plans, putting those plans into motion, analyzing the results, and reformulating plans. In order to execute this “hypothesis testing process,” the ability to logically analyze business based in a firm theoretical framework is required.

To serve that purpose, the Graduate School of International Management employs a systematic curriculum structure which first teaches basic knowledge in the fields of management, marketing, finance, accounting, and operations/information systems, and then goes on to focus on selected major fields.

To enrich our education content, we have thus far linked with over 20 overseas business schools and formed a global knowledge network. The Global Action Learning course facilitated by these linkages to overseas universities and the Japanese industrial arena is another feature of the Graduate School of International Management. As an integrated management knowledge capstone course, the Global Action Learning course aids systematic and holistic comprehension of business. It is an educational opportunity only available at the Graduate School of International Management.

Many individuals have entered or reentered the work world after studying in the Graduate School of International Management with the goal of career upgrading their careers and leading more satisfying lives. It is our desire to untiringly endeavor towards the creation of a vibrant yet rigorous business school that supports the hopes and dreams of these future contributors to the workforce who show such potential. We are looking forward to the enrollment in our Graduate School of International Management of more students with strong motivation and the goal of realizing their own dreams through business.
